Over the weekend I attended the Chicago Defender Newsmaker’s Event. I was extremely blessed to be able to cover this annual event. The Defender is the only Black newspaper in Chicago. It has been giving Black Chicago a voice for 106 years.
This event was to honor distinguished Chicagoans. The awardees were diverse in their career fields, which ranged from media personalities to athletes. It was amazing to see how the Black elite of Chicago are so supportive of one another. I can literally say that I was surrounded by greatness. However, one thing was disappointing.
The Chicago defender were honoring Derek Rose and Dwayne Wade. Neither one of them showed up to receive their award. Seeing that they are both from Chicago, I couldn’t imagine them not being there, but was in for a rude awakening.
Besides that it was an overall nice time. Check out the pictures taken by my friend who just happens to be an awesome photographer, Chuck.
Thank you Chicago Defender for allowing me to attend this wonderful event. I look forward to working with you guys sometime soon!
Love Always,
Nikki
