‘CROWNS’

Friday night my Daddy and I went to see the gospel musical ‘CROWNS’ at the Goodman Theatre here in Chicago. Written by Regina Taylor, this musical beautifully told our story as African American women.

If I can choose one word to describe what I was feeling while sitting in the audience watching the musical it would be: pride. My Daddy and I couldn’t help but to notice the majority of White people in the audience. It’s pretty cool to see other races support our endeavors. It was also enlightening for other races there, because they got a chance to learn a little bit about our culture and why we do the things we do. It makes me proud to know that the arts are alive. It also makes me proud to see African American theatre at the Goodman. I believe this is the beginning of more African American stories being told. I’m excited about this movement!

Congrats to Regina Taylor and all of the actors. You guys did an amazing job and I look forward to seeing more. Also, if you guys are interested in seeing ‘CROWNS’ you must hurry, because August 12, 2012 is the final performance. Click here for more information.
