Dear Woman, Who’s Telling Your Story? Is It You?

by Wednesday, March 20, 2013

For Harriet and I recently hosted a twitter chat discussing sisterhood in the Black community. We briefly discussed the tragedy of everyone labeling the Black woman, except for the Black woman herself.

This is exactly why I do what I do. My story is necessary. Your story is necessary. And just when I couldn’t believe this to be more true, I find a TED Talk by Chimamanda Adichie, validating my thoughts.

A few years ago I blogged about a book I was reading entitled “Half of a Yellow Sun”. Adichie is the author of that amazing piece of literature.

In her talk, Adichie explains how her important it was to tell her story which consists of Nigerian roots. She also warns against the danger of a single story. Take a peek:

Thoughts? Are you telling your story? Whether it’s through blogging, or simply living, make sure you’re telling it well.

Love Always,
