Why I Absolutely Needed to Cut My Hair…You likey?

by Wednesday, February 5, 2014

A couple of months ago my cousin who is known for her long, luxurious hair, did the unthinkable by chopping it all off. She explained how she’s always wanted a short hairstyle, we only live once, and since we don’t know how long our time actually is it makes sense to LIVE. I completely understood where she was coming from.

Two years ago we tragically lost our cousin, who was more like a sister. Toya’s death forever changed us. Forget saying tomorrow isn’t promised, shoot, today isn’t promised.

I started thinking. I’ve always wanted to wear my hair in a cute Nia Long bob. I was natural for 3 years, got tired of that. I’m tired of braids, plus I think they’re the reason some of my hair fell out. I enjoy rocking a long wavy sew-in, but I was yearning something new. My cousin was right. I don’t know how long I’ll live, and even if I live to be 100 years old, I don’t wanna have any regrets. Besides, I’ll be 30 in four months. It’s time to step up my grown woman status. With that being said, it was an absolute EASY decision to cut my hair.

Sooooooo… what do you guys think? You likey?

Do you have a similar hair story? I’d love to hear it. Sound off below!

I’m all about a bob or a cute pixie cut. I absolutely loved my pixie cut and I plan on getting it again. However, I feel compelled to grow my hair more and make a donation to Locs of Love since not many women of color donate. After that, pixie cut here I come!

I love your new cut! And your perspective on why you chose to cut it. I’ve been thinking about cutting my hair for a while now too…thanks for the inspiration! You look amazing!

Lovely! It looks fab! I want to try a short cut but I don’t want a relaxer to maintain the look (which most stylists tell me I’ll have to do). I’ll be visiting a salon soon for a similar, shorter-bob cut, too! I love my curls but miss my straight-easy-to-wrap and go hair!
